Cape May 2006
September 8-11
By mid afternoon on Friday we were set up on the beach in front of
our hotel, the Periwinkle on Beach Avenue. Included in the early arrivers
were Pattie and Jim Markley, Lynda Letteri Novak and Mike Maffucci, Ralph
and Mary Ann Cardinale and Bob and Linda Penett. We watched the sun set
sipping wine and beer and munching on various combinations of cheese and
crackers.
Paula Brown and Vicky Chalk arrived in the early evening as we
continued to enjoy the warm September evening in the Periwinkle's courtyard
outside of the sliding glass doors of our adjacent rooms. Juliet Madeo
Turano arrived late in the evening as we continued to sit under
the stars playing music.
Saturday's temperatures were in the mid 80s as we headed back to the
beach. Bill Pitcher joined the party in the late afternoon. BP put together
a last minute dinner in the evening using the Periwinkle's on site
barbecues. Some how we managed to get enough energy to do a little bar
hopping around Cape May. The best of which was a great Blues band at the
Congress Inn.
Sunday was beach and bike. We got a lesson from the local naturalist
at the Cape May Lighthouse about hawk migration. It was not all fun and
games during our weekend. We finished the day with dinner at the Lobster
House.
Monday we slept in before taking a slow walk around town. If you
have never been to Cape May it is hard to explain the over all ambiance
of the place. It is very enjoyable just being there. After six years of
spending the weekend after Labor Day at the Cape, it only seems to get
better.
